Stair Maker

Used to create basic stair shapes and configurations.

Accessed from:
  • Key-in only: Key-in: TFDIALOG STAIRS

Attention: The tool creates static parametric compound cells. Because the parametric recipe is applied to the cell upon placement, it can only be changed by replacing the cell.
SettingDescription
Configuration Selects stairs which have the following configurations:
  • (Straight Stairs) — Places a single free form for a closed stair (has walls on both sides), or as a group of free forms for an open stair (can have no walls or a wall on one side).
  • (U Shaped Stairs) — Places two sets of straight stairs joined by a rectangular landing, where the steps have two 90 degree turns.
  • ( U Shaped Winder Stairs) — Places two sets of straight stairs connected by steps that turn the corners.
  • (L Shaped Stairs) — Places two sets of straight stairs joined by a landing, where the steps have one 90 degree turn.
  • (L Shaped Winder Stairs) — Places two sets of straight stairs connected by steps that turn the corner.
  • (Spiral Stairs) — Places stairs that wind in a spiral formation having smooth, curved riser sides or squared-off riser sides.
Family Sets and displays the selected family name for the stairs with a description to the right of the field, or sets a new family from the list of previously defined part families.
Part Sets and displays the selected part name belonging to the selected family, or sets a new part from the list of available parts already defined within that family.
Opens Family/Part Editor .
Extrusion Sets the element type for the stairs:
  • MicroStation Shapes - Stairs are constructed using smart solids.
  • Building Designer Forms - Stairs are constructed using Building free forms.
Type Sets the type of stairs:
  • Closed - The staircase has walls on both sides.
  • Open - The staircase is open with no walls on either side, or has one wall on one side.
Level Specifies the level on which the stairs are placed: -
  • Part - Stairs are placed on the level that is defined for the selected part.
  • Active - Places the stairs on the active level.
Symbology Specifies the symbology for the stairs:-
  • Part - Stairs are created with the symbology that is defined for the selected part.
  • Active - The stairs are created with the active symbology.
Clockwise When on, sets the rotation of the walking line going up the stairs to a clockwise direction. Not available for Straight Stairs.
Smooth When on, configures the exterior side of each winder step to have a curved radius instead of a flat side. Available only for Spiral Stairs.
Tread Width Sets the width of each step’s tread, from side to side.
Riser Height Sets the height of teach step’s riser.
Tread Sets the depth of the step’s tread. Tread measurement does not include the nosing.
Nosing Sets the depth of each step’s nosing. Available for Straight Stairs only.
Tread Depth Displays the total depth of the step’s tread. Available for Straight Stairs only.
Stair Height Sets the total rise of stairs.
Stair Length Sets the total run of stairs. Available for Straight Stairs only.
Stair Length (display) Displays the total stair run. Not available for Straight Stairs.
Tread Width (display) Displays the total tread width. Not available for Straight Stairs.
Sweep Angle Sets the amount of rotation via an angle value between 0º and 360º. For instance:
  • Entering 180º creates a semi circular spiral (half a revolution)
  • Entering 360º creates a circular spiral (full revolution)
  • Entering 540º creates a circular spiral (1-1/2 revolutions) but displays 180º
Available for Spiral Stairs only.
Landing Thickness Sets the thickness of the landing. Available for Straight Stairs only
Vertical Angle Sets the angle of the line of nosing for the stairs.
Number of Risers Sets the total number of risers for the staircase.
When stair height is changed: the number of risers changes when the lock is off; the number of risers does not change when the lock is on.
  • If off (unlocked), the number of risers changes.
  • If on (locked), the number of risers does not change.
# Start Risers Sets the number of risers comprising the first flight of steps, starting with the bottom step and ending with the landing. Available for U Shaped, U Shaped Winder, L Shaped, and L Shaped Winder stairs.
Space Between Sets the space between the side of the first run of stairs and the side of the second run of stairs. Available for U Shaped and U Shaped Winder stairs.
Inside Radius Sets the radius for the interior side of the staircase. Available for Spiral Stairs only.
Outside Radius Sets the radius for the exterior side of the staircase. Available for Spiral Stairs only.
Preview Dynamically displays the active staircase.
View Sets the preview display to Iso (isometric), Top, Front, or Right orientations. Not available for Straight Stairs.
Apply Applies the settings to current stair configuration.
Place Closes the Stair Maker tool settings, and places the active stair definition using the Place Compound Cell tool.
